Page 1 of 1 At the 2001 Tokyo Motorshow Mazda launched an evolution of the RX8 launched at the 2001 Detroit Motorshow, surprisingly called RX8. This RX8 seems almost production ready and should hit the roads in 2002. Powering the RX8 is the latest version of Mazda's trademark rotary engine, the RENESIS (Rotary Engine Genesis), pumping out a hefty 250bhp without the help of a Turbo. To achieve a sporty coupe look combined with easy access to the rear seats Mazda's engineers have opted for a four door layout but with the rear doors hinging at the rear, thus eliminating the need for a central pillar.
