Page 1 of 1  Before the 2001 season Minardi was in big financial problems and it looked like they were not going to make it to the grid of the first race. With less than two months to go Australian Paul Stoddart took over the team and made his European F3000 staff available for the Faenza team. The PS01 was tested only once before the Australian Grand Prix but both cars managed to qualify. The line-up consisted of the very talented Alonso who impressed by out-qualifying the more powerful Arrows and Benettons more than once.
