Page 1 of 1 Mazda extended its research into customer reaction and attitudes to the concept of a Mazda Performance Series by displaying a special high-performance Mazda 323 MPS concept model at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show. The 323 MPS concept is based upon the four-door Mazda 323 saloon and has been designed to deliver a sporting and youthful image matched to significant performance and an exciting driving experience. Modifications to the standard Mazda 323 include an increase in power to 150 horsepower from the 2.0-litre engine, achieved through careful tuning of the unit. The 323 MPS concept has a more aggressive stance than the standard 323, due to its special suspension and low-profile tyres on special alloy wheels. A distinctive appearance has been created by the use of aerodynamic body components and sporting interior fittings. It has a large front air-dam with integrated driving lights, full body kit and dramatic rear spoiler. Page 1 of 1
