Page 1 of 1 In the 1960s Alfa Romeo had introduced one of the finest engines the world had ever seen, an all aluminium quad-cam V8 engine. It was used in 2 and 3 litre form in prototype racing and found its way to the road in very small in numbers in the ultra rare and beautiful Tipo 33 Stradale. In 1970 Alfa Romeo launched supercar powered by a slightly tuned 2.5 litre version of the V8 engine, the Montreal. Even though the prototypes were mid engined and the vents in the rear pillar hint to that as well the Montreal was front engined.
With 200bhp on the tap the Bertone styled Montreal proved more than a match for Porsche, Maseratis and Ferraris. It was let down however by its reliability. Page 1 of 1
