The chassis was fitted with engines ranging from a 1 litre 4 cylinder engine to a small block Ford V8. It was replaced by the Vixen S1 which was based on the last of the Grantura chassis. The first 12 Vixens were fitted with a MG B engine but to cut costs it was replaced by the much cheaper Ford Cortina GT engine. It was then replaced by the S2 in 1968 which had a slightly longer wheelbase than the S1.
