Page 1 of 1 In the early F5000 races many Lotus F1 and Tasman chassis competed but it wasn't until 1969 that Colin Chapman started work on a purpose designed F5000 car. The Lotus 68 featured the wedge shape used in the contemporary F1 and F2 designs. It appeared in production guise as the Lotus 70 in the 1970 international Formula Atlantic and F5000 series. The 70s were available from the factory as a rolling chassis and were prepared to take either the Ford BOss or the Chevrolet 302 engines. In the F5000 series it was no match for the McLaren M10s.
This 70 was run in the 1970 Formula Atlantic Series by TV comedian Dick Smoters. It is seen here at the 2002 Goodwood Festival of Speed where it celebrated 50 years of Lotus engineeering. Page 1 of 1
