Chassis:
The second of three M28s built, chassis M28-2 was allocated to McLaren's principle driver, John Watson. He used it to score the flattering third in Argentina, and later in the season it was also briefly raced by Tambay. It was retired from active service halfway through the year and later served as a show car for Marlboro. McLaren retained the car until 2009, when it was acquired by the current, American owner. He had the car meticulously restored and campaigned it in various historic events, including the 2010 Monterey Motorsports Reunion where it is seen above.
Having campaigned the car on both sides of the Atlantic for several years, he has now decided to part with the car and has entrusted it to Silverstone Auctions for the July 21st Silverstone Classic sale. The pre-sale estimate for this beautifully restored machine is a very reasonable GBP 200,000 - 220,000.
