Chassis:
Chassis 78/2 was first race at the start of the 1977 season by Mario Andretti. After three retirements, Gunnar Nilsson took to the helm of the second of a total of four Lotus 78s built. The young Swede used it to score a win in the Belgian Grand Prix and placed it third at Silverstone. The following season his compatriot Ronnie Peterson raced it until the new Lotus 79 was ready. He added another victory to the chassis' tally by winning the South African Grand Prix. At the end of the year Hector Rebaque got a taste of the car but with no success. Today chassis 78/2 is owned by the British National Motor Museum where it is seen here suspended in the air.
