One of the first customer Jaguar D-Types, this chassis was delivered new to France and finished in French racing blue. It was raced to third at Le Mans in 1957 and crashed out of the race the following year. The damaged car was sold to Giovanni Michelotti, who cut off the damaged panels and fitted a brand-new and very elegant Coupe body. During the 1970s, it was repatriated to the United Kingdom, where it was restored to its original configuration using all the surviving components. The Michelotti body did survive and was later fitted on a Jaguar road-car chassis. Following a lengthy spell in the United States, it has more recently been sold back to continental Europe.
