Chassis:
Chassis 3059 was the first new works car built for the 1956 season and also the first that sported the long nose body. Piero Taruffi debuted the car with a second place finish in the Giro di Sicilia. Taruffi and Harry Schell started the Nürburgring 1000 km in this car and were then joined by Jean Behra and Stirling Moss after their 300S had failed. Together they claimed what is arguably the 300S' biggest victory. Stirling Moss also drove it to a win in Bari Grand Prix and scored a victory in Australia where it was subsequently sold to its first private owner. It was extensively raced by Bob Jane, who even fitted a roof in the 1960s to qualify the 300S for GT races. During the 1970s, it was carefully restored to its original, spider configuration. Chassis 3059 remained in Australia until 1992 when it was acquired by German dealer Klaus Werner. It was raced by his son Max before it was traded with the current owner for this Tipo 61 Birdcage in 2011.
