Chassis:
Completed in March of 1973, chassis 605 was the fifth and final Mirage M6 built. It was used throughout the season by Derek Bell, usually with Howden Ganley as a team-mate. For the Spa 1000 km race, Bell was joined by Mike 'The Bike' Hailwood and they promptly scored a win. At the end of the season a crack was found in the rear bulkhead and the car was retired. It was initially rebuilt as show-car for Gulf. Its subsequent owner Harry Cluxton had it fully refurbished with the help of John Horsman.
In 1999 it passed into the hands of the current owner, an enthusiastic American historic racer. Retaining as much of the original car as possible, he had it restored once again. With no original M6 body available, it is fitted with the later GR7 style panels. The Spa 1000 km winning M6 is now regularly raced on both sides of the Atlantic. It is seen here at various editions of the Monterey Historic Races and in 2004 during the Le Mans Classic and the Classic Endurance Racing support event for the Spa 1000 km race.
