Chassis:
Completed late in 1970, this was the very first Porsche 917/10 built. It served as the development vehicle well into the 1972 season. It was initially powered by a naturally aspirated flat-12 but in January of 1972 was upgraded with a twin-turbo unit. During this period the bodywork also gradually evolved until it was similar to the 917/10K bodywork used in the customer cars. In June of 1972, it was sold to Willy Kauhsen, who campaigned it in Bosch colours all around the world well into the 1973 season. He scored a victory at Interlagos in Brasil late in 1972, and in 1974 it was raced once by Emerson Fittipaldi.
Following its retirement from contemporary racing, it was retained by Kauhsen. The car was not seen in public until 2000 when it was raced in the Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nürburgring by Kauhsen himself. Still liveried in the Bosch colours, it was then demonstrated at various events before it was sold to German collector Ulrich Schumacher in 2008. Four years later, it was acquired by Monaco-based Porsche enthusiast Claudio Roddaro. In the following years, he converted the car back to its original configuration with a naturally aspirated engine and a much rounder body. The final touch was a re-finish in the Gulf colours used during one of the very first tests with the car. In this guise, chassis 917/10-001 was raced at the 2015 Vallelunga Classic by Jurgen Barth. The car has since been sold to and offered by German dealer Jan Lühn.
