Chassis:
Chassis SL70/12 was acquired by John Mecom as a spare tub and he took delivery of it in June of 1965. It was most almost immediately pressed into service as Walt Hansgen wrecked one of Mecom's earlier cars. Completed with many of the components from the wreck, it was then raced for Mecom by the likes of Walt Hansgen, Mark Donohue and Parnelli Jones but with limited success. In 1966, it was sold to fellow Houstonian Leroy Melcher, who scored a victory with the car in a minor event before selling it on to Venezuela. Here it won a couple of races in 1968 before it was retired from contemporary racing. It returned to the United States shortly after and was in longtime ownership between 1979 and 2007 before it was finally restored to full running order.
