Completed in September of 1961, this is the 22nd California Spyder built on the SWB chassis. It was equipped with covered headlights and sold new to Milanese interior and furniture designer Gianfranco Frattini for 5.5 million Lire. In 1963, the car appeared in the Academy Award winning movie Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow. Frattini cherished the car and owned it through to June of 1978 when it was acquired by fellow Italian Terzo Dalia. He entered the car in two events during the early 1980s before selling it to the third owner in 1985. Well maintained, chassis 2871GT has never been completely restored and has only rarely been seen at public events (until 2016, it had never been outside of Italy). After a 30-year ownership spell, the current custodian has now consigned the California Spyder to Gooding's 2016 Amelia Island Auction.
