Chassis:
The second of the three all-new DB2s fielded in the 1949 24 Hours of Le Mans, this was one of two fitted with the earlier four-cylinder engine. It was driven by Arthur Jones and Nick Haines, who finished seventh overall while the two other DB2 Prototypes retired with mechanical issues. The four-cylinder engined car then finished fifth overall in that year's Spa 24 Hours. It was then sold to gentleman racer Bill Whitehouse, who campaigned the car from the early 1950s. In subsequent hands, it continued to be raced and demonstrated. Chassis LMA/2/49 last appeared at the parade for the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans and was then placed into storage awaiting restoration. This never happened and in 2002, it was stolen from the garden of the owner in rather dilapidated condition. Eventually the car was retrieved following litigation and has been consigned to the 2016 Bonhams Goodwood Fetsival of Speed sale. Although in rather poor condition, it is almost complete and would make an interesting addition to any Aston Martin collection, being one of just two four-cylinder engined DB2s ever built.
