Chassis: M23-11
Built ahead of the 1977 Formula 1 season, this M23 was raced by defending champion James Hunt to fourth in the South African Grand Prix and to seventh in the US Grand Prix West at Long Beach. After the M26 was finally deemed ready, this car was sold to Bob Sparshott for the BS Fabrications team. The small privateer team fielded the car for Brett Lunger during the 1977 and 1978 seasons with limited success. Towards the end of 1978, it was also raced for the team by Nelson Piquet in three rounds. Following several more outings in the Aurora AFX championship, it was retired from contemporary racing. Since then, it has been restored to its original configuration and livery. In this guise, chassis M23-11 starred in the motion picture 'Rush', which depicts the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda during the 1976 season. Today, it is part of the fabulous collection of an American historic racer.
