Chassis:
Completed in May of 1937, this top of the range 135 Sport Coupe des Alpes was delivered as a rolling chassis to carrossier Chapron. Here it was fitted with a Roadster body, which was the second in a series of seven built by the French coach-builder following this design. Road registered for the first time on July 21, 1937, the car was bought new by young industrialist Cyriel Depery. Several years later, Depery was part of the French Resistance and his Delahaye was part of the parade celebrating the liberation of Annecy on August 20, 1944. In 1951, the Chapron Roadster was acquired by Eugene Julliard, who went on to use the car until his death nearly a decade later. It was stored until the bills were no longer paid and early in 1961, it was sold to Georges Lombard. He absolutely loved the car and used it enthusiastically for the better part of five decades. Still in remarkably original but well-used condition, it was offered by Lombard's family at the 2014 Artcurial Retromobile sale. Here it was acquired by an American enthusiast, who had the car comprehensively restored by Butch Dennison. At some point during its life, the original engine had been replaced but during the restoration, a correct triple-carburettor Sport engine was tracked down. The work was completed just in time for the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance where it won the special class for Chapron bodied Delahayes.
