Chassis:
This is one of three Type 57 S Bugattis clothed by Vanvooren with a Cabriolet body. Through a Parisian dealer, it was sold to its first, French owner in 1937. Before the end of the decade, it was sold to the United Kingdom. Among the subsequent owners was noted enthusiast Jack Lemon Burton. In 1962, it was acquired by long-term owner T.A. Roberts. During the 1970s, Roberts fitted the car with a left over Type 57 G competition engine while retaining the original engine. In 1990, it was sold to the United States, where it joined its second long term collection in 1996. It will now be offered from this collection by RM Sotheby's in their 2017 Amelia Island sale. Today it is fitted with the original engine but equipped with the high performance intake of the Type 57 G unit. This rare Bugatti is expected to sell for over $8.5 million.
