Chassis:
Commissioned by Belgian racing driver Jean Blaton or ‘Beurlys’, this 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 was appropriately painted yellow from new. It was entered in the 1974 24 Hours of Le Mans by Ecurie Francorchamps with Richard Bond and Hughes de Fierlandt sharing the driving duties with Blaton. The trio had a very strong run and were up to second when the clutch failed 19 hours into the race. The following year the car was raced with Harley Davidson backing by Nick Faure, John Charles Cooper and Blaton. This time the clutch held and the RSR crossed the line in sixth overall and second in class. Chassis 9072 was then sold to Annie-Charlotte Verney who added another class second in 1977 at Le Mans and then scored a class victory the following year at what was the car’s fourth appearance at La Sarthe. Retired from its lengthy racing career at the end of 1979, it was subsequently displayed in a private museum for several decades. It was then acquired by two brothers, who campaigned the car in historic events for many years. It was then sold through DK Engineering, who also oversaw a sensitive restoration to its original configuration in 1974. Despite the long career, the car has survived in remarkable condition retaining its original shell and matching numbers crankcase.
