Chassis 50006 One of the very last Tipo Bs built, this example is understood to be one of three fitted with the Dubonnet independent front suspension from new. Stamped SF46, it was campaigned by Scuderia Ferrari for its famous drivers during the 1935 season. At the end of 1936, it was sold by Scuderia Ferrari to British engineer Frank Ashby. From October that year, he campaigned the car in events like the Brighton Speed Trials and at Brooklands for two seasons. During this period, Ashby built a new head for the ageing engine and also modified the radiator and exhaust to keep it competitive. In 1946, the car was acquired by Ken Hutchinson. He, and subsequent owner Joe Goodhew, continued to race the Tipo B through to the 1950 season. In 1953, the ex-Scuderia Ferrari machine was sold to New Zeeland where it was eventually restored to its original configuration using chassis 50005 as a mould for the body. In 1990, this rare machine joined the formidable Hayashi Collection and then passed to the hands of similarly noted collector Bruce McCaw. Through Hall & Hall, it was then sold to Italian racer Umberto Rosso. He had Hall & Hall prepare the car for historic racing. He raced the car for several seasons in select historic events until he retired from the sport and sold the Tipo B on.
