Chassis:
Finished in the famous Calberson colours, this is the first Group 4 Renault 5 Turbo completed. It was entered for Jean Ragnotti and his co-driver Jean Marc Andrié in the 1980 Tour de France Automobile. Ragnotti was quick and won several stages but mechanical issues delayed the French effort and they were ultimately forced to retire after an off on the Col de Perty. It was then entered in the Tour de Corse and Ragnotti was en route to certain victory when the alternator belt broke on one of the final stages. The car was not used again in 1980 and instead was repainted in Renault's F1 colours and starred on the cover of the French Echappement magazine. The first Group 4 Renault 5 Turbo was used for testing by Ragnotti with a potential buyer, who was interested to see how the Renault compared to the new Audi Quattro. The car itself was eventually sold and later ended up in the collection of former Renault and Ferrari F1 team manager Jean Sage. It was later acquired by a historic racer, who campaigned the car in the Tour de Corse Historique before offering it at Artcurial's 2014 Retromobile sale. It sold for well over the pre-sale estimate at just shy of Euro 400,000.
