Chassis:
Starting life as a D-Type with the chassis number XKD 575, this car was converted to XK SS specification by the factory early in 1957. Saved from the fire, it was eventually dispatched in May of 1957 to Jaguar of Eastern Canada, who were based in Montreal. The first private owner was a Stanley C. McRobert, who raced the car in local hill-climbs and road races through to the middle of 1958. The subsequent owners continued to race the car for several more years and it eventually ended up with a dentist in Ohio. It was then acquired by noted collector Peter S. Kalikow, who loved the car but inexplicably sold it again in the early 1970s. He still regrets this ans since then has never sold a car from his collection again. By 1980, the car had been repatriated by historic racer John Harper. He had it converted to D-Type specification and raced it extensively in historic events. Among the later owners was Brian Redman and it also spent time in Ohio again. In 2000, it changed hands once more. The new owner continued to race the car in D-Type specification for most of the following decade. It was then entrusted to marque specialists Pearsons Engineering for a restoration back to its XK SS configuration. The work was ready in time for the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance where it formed part of a formidable row of 12 of the original cars. It has since been shown at Villa d'Este and demonstrated at the Goodwood Revival.
