Chassis:
This early Europa GT was one of a pair fitted with aluminium bodywork. The lightweight bodywork was matched by an engine tuned to competition specifications. It was finished in Blu Fiat 8V complemented by a tan leather interior. The car was delivered new to Industrie Lampade Elettriche on behalf of Luciano Cascalli. The car remained in Italy until it was shipped to the United States in March of 1960 for noted Ferrari collector Edwin Niles. It was then sold to a dentist from Los Angeles, who eventually had the gearbox and rear axle replaced by Corvette sourced components after the Ferrari parts had failed. Following a cosmetic restoration by Steve Tillack during the 1980s, it was repatriated to Italy and then sold on to Germany in the early 1990s. Its German owner campaigned the car in historic events like the Mille Miglia retrospective. By the end of the decade, the car was in American hands again and during the mid 2000s, it was restored once more. The engine is still original, while the Corvette transmission and rear axle have long since been replaced by period correct components again.
