Chassis:
Understood to be the very last DFV-engined TOJ built, this is one of two new SC303s constructed for the 1978 season. Although the team had lost the Warsteiner back, it was finished in gold for first owner Hubert Striebig. Still gold but already with BP backing, it was raced by Striebig with considerable success early in 1978, scoring wins at Albi, in the Coupes de Paques at Nogaro and at Hockenheim. The car was then refinished in black and green for the 24 Hours of Le Mans qualifying. After the only available engine was blown up, it could not start in the race. It was then raced with a two-litre BMW engine before being retired from contemporary racing. It remained in this guise for many years, until it was restored back to its original three-litre specification by American Peter Read in the early 2010s. A few years later, it was acquired by a Belgian historic racer, who brought the car back to Europe and re-applied the Le Mans livery.
