Chassis:
One of the most widely raced 8CMs, chassis 3011 was sold new to London-based American Whitney Straight. He raced the car extensively during the 1934 season with particularly success at minor events on the British isles. For the 1935 season, it was sold to and raced by Harry Rose. In 1936, 3011 was driven to victory in the British Empire Trophy at Donington by its next owner, the hugely talented Richard Seaman. Its next, equally famous owner was Thai Price B. Bira. He would go on to race the car with some success from the fall of 1936 through to the late 1940s. Its contemporary racing career continued in the hands of subsequent owner Kenneth McAlpine, who raced the car in 1948 and 1949. The 8CM then appeared at the 1951 Brighton Speed Trials in the hands of Leslie W. Boyce. Following its lengthy racing career, it was displayed at the Doune Museum and was also owned for many years by noted collector and historic racer Peter Giddings. In more recent years, it joined the stable of a British collector, who has 3011 regularly raced by Robert Newall.
