Believed to be the first C-Type delivered new to the United States, this early production car was completed in June of 1952. The first owner was West Coast distributor Charles Hornburg. He also recognised the effect racing could have on his sales and entrusted the car to a young Phil Hill for an event at Elkhart Lake. Hill actually drove the car on the road from California to Wisconsin before winning the Sheldon Cup outright and placing fourth overall in the main event. Having secured the first win for a C-Type on American soil, Hill then drove the car back to California. Back on the West Coast, Hill also clinched a victory at Torrey Pines in December of 1952. Having served its purpose, Hornburg eventually sold the car.

This was not the end of XKC 007's contemporary racing career as subsequent owners continued to campaign the car in local events through to 1957. During the late 1950s, the XK engine was fitted with a D-Type head and raced at Bonneville where it reportedly was clocked at 157 mph. Having been painted red and then British Racing Green at some point, the car was eventually submitted to a ground-up restoration at the hands of specialist Peter Larson in the late 1980s. Some remnants of the original paint were found under the new layers, which allowed for the car to be returned to its original colours. In 1993, the car joined the stable of Jaguar enthusiast, the late Gerald Nell. He showed the car at a variety of events until his death. From his estate, the C-Type was acquired by fellow Jaguar enthusiast Gary Bartlett, who had it restored once more before showing it at events like Villa d'Este and Amelia Island. Sold on again more recently, XKC 007 has now been consigned to the 2017 RM Sotheby's New York - Icons sale as one of the auction's headliners.
