never fails to impress! |

I saw one of these on two occasions last year at the Jim Clark and McRae stages rallies for the first time. I'd seen many older group A cars etc but this was one of the first wrc spec cars that I've watched. The car was incredible to watch on both occassions because of the sheer pace. The noise of this car is also something amazing, it is incredible how a 2.0l 4 cyl can produce such a low deep exhaust note. The backfires were also awesome, definately the loudest I've ever heard close up. At the McRae stages in Perthshire I swear I could here this car when it was competing on another stage more than 3 miles away! Having said that, like all modern WRC cars, all of the noise comes from the exhaust/antilag, it actually is not audible from more than a few hundred yards away if it is facing towards you. Let's just hope that some rich privateers brave the credit crunch and continue to field these for some years to come. |
Economy PASSAT? |

Skoda Octavia shares the same platform with VW Golf and Seat Leon, not Passat. Skoda Superb uses the long version of the Passat platform. Before Skoda Superb the long version of the Passat platform was used only in Shanghai-VW Passat which was made in China. |

I grew up in Slovakia (as in former CzechoSlovakia) and the Skoda was a low end inexpensive car. Always rear engined with rear wheel drive. The original Octavia from the 60s looked like a '53 Chevy. My grandfather had one when I was a kid in the late '70s and early '80. Now that VW ownes Skoda they brought back the Octavia a few years ago. All my friends and relatives in Slovakia say it's very well known that the Octavia is a budget oriented Passat. It's still a little pricy for a lot of Slovakians, but at the same time thae quality is Superb! I hope VW keeps up the good work with Skoda, althought personally I can't stand VW clutches and would never buy one. I'll stick to my '68 Camaro with a 350 in the good 'ol USA where gas is still affordable. |

I think that skoda should introduce the octavia WRC to australia. i live on a road in the middle of nowhere, we have a few national rallies on it and if the skoda octavia was avaliable i would be extremely happy to drive it. i currently race a toyota and i would be delighted to be better in a skoda. |
