I may have been 10 or 11 when I first saw a picture of this car and I was immediately taken by it's beauty and uniqueness.Years later, while making one of my frequent visits to Ed Jurist's"Vintage Car Store"in Nyack,NY,there it sat forlornly in the basement. It had been decapitated and the top(including the rear glass)sat next to it in a crate. This was sometime in the mid to late 70's as I recall. For years I have thought about this car and now I am thrilled(no pun intendedto see it back intact and restored!

Very many of the Z102's had very attractive coachwork, sadly this is not one of them.

The "Platillo Volante", aka Flying Saucer, chassis 021.., was the widely used nickname by ENASA workforce, until Production Mngr Egidio Benetti, decided to withdrawn it, because the launch of the contemporary "Disco Volante" A-R/Touring concept car. Benetti, a former FIAT production executive, was a member of the strong team of Italian technicians and experts W.P. Ricart recruited in 1946 to organize the ENASA production lines and design their diverse products, at the prewar H-S factory of Barcelona.
BTW:Originally,# 021 bodyshell sported a blending of pale yellow tones sprayed simultanously with a couple of paint guns. Wheel rims were chromed, not red. 2.8 litre engine got initially a volumetric blower, replaced by 4 DCF1 Webers, soon afterwards.

The 1954 Panamericana entrant, sponsored by Dominican`s Trujillo and first owner of 021..,nicknamed "El Dominicano", was Touring barchetta, chassis #042.., powered 3 by a 3.2 litre compressed version of the V8, previously seen at Jabbeke record attemps and other minor events. Sadly, destroyed at the Mexican road race.

"No.21 was bodied by the Pegaso factory in 1952 on a Z-102 chassis. The body is a one-off, based on a previous similar exercise and it was named Pegaso Z-102 Berlinetta Cupula 2 (as opposed to the other car which was a 1). It was also named ""Rosa de TE or Tea rose because of its yellow paint. The engine was the in-house fully designed and built V8 with 2,475 ccm (bore 75mm x stoke 70mm) with a Roots type compressor. The car was shown at the 1953 New York Motor Show, where it was sold to Trujillo. For more information, see www.pieldetoro.net"""
