your excellent points bruxell.

It sure is great value if priced well below a Boxster but does it have to look so blugly?....

It amazes me, the number of supposed enthusiasts who will bitch about something as neat as an affordable new sports coupe, with a rear weight bias, lower CofG than a Cayman, sweet-reving flat four, 200hp, a six-speed gearbox, all independent suspension...

Please, get over it! People had better buy this car, or no one is going to bother making anything other than Boxy people movers at this price point.

Well Aero_HDT, you decry my ignorance in comparing the GT86 to a Cayman and then reveal how Toyota have aped the third iteration MR2 from the Boxster and the Supra Mk111 from the 928.

Looks like Toyota have made a habit of stealing styling cues from Porsche, and if you are too blind to see their latest copy, may I suggest better glasses to cure your myopia and a bit of crow to temper your arrogance?

Anyway, who's kidding who and who is having a dollar bet each way?
 Hardly a Cayman

I really struggle to see any resemblance to a Cayman in the GT86 - it certainly isn't a pretty car, but to decry it as a mangled version of a Porsche is ignorance. And you evidently don't remember what rip-offs the MR2 were, especially the 2nd and 3rd generations (Ferrari 348 and Boxster clones). The Celica was frumpy in it's final guise and even the Mk III Supra took 928 cues for it's lines.

Toyota have never been cutting edge with designs, I think the GT86 will age quicker than Amy Winehouse and will be old-hat in two years, but for the time being, it certainly looks the part of a budget sports coupe...

Toyota, what were ya thinking?

Take the basic style of the Cayman and muck its purity of line and form with awkward ridges, bumps and creases of metal. [Has Chris Bangle joined your design team?]

An embarrassing replacement of Toyota's fine MR2, Celica and Supra sports cars.

Surely you can do better?....

The debut of a brand new sports car should be really exciting but this car is just a cliche everywhere you look. I don't see any new thinking here. How disappointing.

Really ... nothing else seems to fit the bill these days. I originally thought an MX-5 hardtop would be the way to go, as I don't like open-tops (too much noise).

A compact coupe is the way to go ... much like the MGB GT of a few decades ago.
 Finally...

A welcome addition to the RWD performance coupe segment. Not exactly bowled over by the styling, but maybe it will present well, live. If it is priced right and rockets around corners while delivering decent fuel mileage it should generate decent sales.

Toyota has created another car that will fall flat. It looks like a minivan.

I really hoped that this car would look more like the FT-86.
Just hoping Subaru will nail it! :)
