The Assegai is well and ready to race, it was last seen (by me) in September 2015 at the Goodwood Revival, it had a reserve entry for the 1500 cc F1 race, and it practised, but there was unfortunately no car that forfieted the start, so it could not participate in the race. The entrant/driver is Aernoout Kok, which sounds pretty Suid African to me.

Ms Lupini's comments refer.

The Assegai is, like only a handful of other cars (GSM Dart, Protea, Davdon, Caracal etc) a uniquely South African car and it's loss to South Africa is worrisome as the historic value of these cars to the SA motoring industry cannot be underestimated. It is i.a. for that reason that I have, for a very long time, advocated the regulation and control of the export from our shores of cars such as these.

Although I cannot, for obvious reasons, comment on the export and current ownership of the Assegai, I think that every effort to return the car to SA should be supported.

I am appealing to those who have interest in this issue.

My father is Tony Kotze, the original designer and owner of the Assegai.

For many years the whereabouts of the car has been completely unknown.

My father is now 83 and was per chance recently contacted to do an article on the car for a local magazine by a local advocate who happened to see the car in your museum.
Quite honestly it is a miracle that he was able to contact my father in this regard at all.

Subsequently, it has raised some questions in my fathers mind as to how the car ended up in England and the museum.

He has asked me to enquire as to providence of the car, if I am stating it correctly.

He never sold the car and still has the original blueprints.

The car was taken from a family home in Paarl, South Africa, on the pretence of restoration, after which the same person disappeared.

My father was unable to locate or follow up on him for all these years, probably post 1968, and only now with the knowledge of the existence of the car, is reflecting on its journey and ultimate resting place.

At the age of 83, this is now stiring old memories and regrets and I would appreciate following this course to set his mind at ease and give him closure.
