Weekend Plaything
Hey guys.
As some of you may know, I recently sold my silvia in the search of a more reliable daily driver. I ended up settling for a 1989 celica.
In short the car is pretty boring to drive unless your on the limit - Understeer, torque steer, all kinds of steering (Except oversteer), all of which I do not enjoy.
Due to this fact I'm casting around ideas for a weekend/cruising car. So far I've figured It will be in the shed for a year or so of its life, while i spend some money as time goes by getting the car how I want it.
Right now im enjoying the idea of buying a turboed S13 and slowly building it up myself with help from some friends. However the same could be said for basically any enjoyable car.
Realistically, I wont be buying the car for a long time, But I want to research my options well and truely before making my decision.
Pretty much cars I can think of that would suit are:
- Toyota KE70 carolla (AE86's older brother)
- Toyota AE86 Sprinter (due to takumi tax may well be too high out of my price range)
- Nissan S13 (Cheap + RWD + massive aftermarket)
- Leyland (or other) original mini (with a few special parts)
I'm having trouble putting other cars in this list, Any help? I'd suggest datsun 510 sedans or coupes but they are quite costly already.
generally has to be lightweight and sporty.
Help? :)

Go the original Mini + Honda motor. Or a TA22 Celica.

orig mini + honda donk is pretty costly, and as hot as TA22 celica's are I think they have recieved a premium price lately, and cost more than im willing to spend to get it how i want it.

KE70 are good, nice and light, put a 20v blacktop in one, coilovers front, camber kit, decent shocks and coils springs on the rear, Mazda RX7 series 5 brakes, semi slicks, very quick little rollas that would embarrass a few cars;)
takuma tax is starting to come in on them though:(
Although the sprinter done right is horn:)

What are plans for this "weekend warrier" ?
Have you looked at kit cars .... not sure legal status there - but you could build one very cheaply in the garage for that year without a large investmenet.
Know anyone good at welding - then the original Locost design is still built .... you start out with square tubing !!!
Drop a bike engine in and it's unbeatable :)
OR buy a kit chassis and build from their ?? ( hmmm how is Suka getting on with his I wonder )

I like the mini idea, but then.. I would. My dream garage hack job would be a twin 1275 engined mini van, but I can't figure out how I'd link the gear shifts... that and could be an utter disaster to drive. Still, it'd be amusing.

I think you should track down the owner of this and buy it - because what's more fun than a V8 engined Isetta?

you are my weekend plaything whiteballz
:p
Go the original Mini + Honda motor.
that is dreadfully expensive, could literally do three other engine swaps for the price apparently.
i say; MX-5 first gen (aparently the block is the same as BPT motor from TX3's, can bolt stuff straight on?)
mini - have my yellow one when it's running, and just upgrade bits and pieces as you go, so you still have it running most of the time
gemini - with sr20 can be sleeper
datsun like blue's
maybe a VW beetle for the lulz
a basic second hand caterham/westfield lotus 7 clone

Yep forgot abou the MX5, they are very quick little cars and have a huge aftermarket scene in the US.... If you ever want to race you can in production sports 2f, have a look om my105 for mx5

A original one is fun.... but they are fairly slow. They have so much potential aguy that I know that runs one in 2F Prod Sports has his 1.8 putting out 210hp,.
Go here MX5 Mania : MX-5 Miata Style and Performance Accessories and tick some boxes= a absolute little road rocket that will drive standard but on weekend rip it up on the track
I think I want a MX5:D
