the thing this movie will be remembered for is its huge role in advancing 3D utilisation in cinema. its one of the first movies that uses 3D as part of the working machine of the movie, rather than as a gimmick to be in-your-face all the time. you almost forget its 3D after 20 minutes or so and walk out with your glasses on.
Really? I spent a great deal of the film feeling let down by the 3D tech, it still has a HUGE way to come before I would consider it anything other than a gimmick.
Usually I would wait for a movie to come out on Netflix to watch it, but it sounds like it's an amazing theater experience. We might go down to Carson City to watch it one of these days.
I keep hearing that's amazing, but my friend said that it seemed like a mashup of Finding Nemo and Independence Day.
And that he also said everyone said "WTF?" when the movie ended. I'll watch it eventually, maybe with my friends.
haha i have no idea, it was a bit.. for the furry's out there lol.
also;
also, since the human DNA affected the number of fingers and toes the avatars had vs the natives, if you noticed the avatars had four fingers the natives only had three. what if like.. the genitalia were affected by human dna.. and didn't match up properly. i mean seriously
also, the mechs reminded me of gears of war haha, the massive shoulders, the shape of the bayonet. uncanny.
*LOL* you're a funny man!
I 'd love to see but since the story line supposedly sucks, I don't know now.
Saw this yesterday in 3D, and I thought it was pretty awesome. Didn't have a clue what it's about, but I had kind of high expectations going in based on what I've heard.
Turns out I was pleasantly surprised, both by the effects and the movie itself.
If you really want to know most of the problems someone could potentially have with it, this sums it up pretty well (do not watch if you haven't watched the movie itself yet):

I was reading up on this movie a year before it even came out and told people about how good it was going to be when it did, yet I haven't even seen the damn thing yet
Maybe I'll go today
Story is sorta flat(think Dances with Wolf, Last Samurai...etc), but very well acted by CGI standard, and well acted by normal movie standard. There are a few scenes that is quite moving(not necessarily sad, just very raw and expressive). Seeing it in IMAX 3D was pretty spectacular. The Pandora is quite beautiful. I think the resemblence to Huey for the Heli was intentional, think Apocalypse Now. And I think it was a brilliant stroke to make the main character a crippled human....adds a lot of dramatic element to the story...
I seen it. It's ok. Not the best.
i saw it, admittedly in the non 3d format, and it met all expectations. it is jim cameron, so you know the effect are going to be top shelf, and the story would be about as exciting as reading the ingredients on a cereal box. do i regret seeing it, no. would i see it again in 3d, maybe if i had the better part of a day and a 50 dollar bill to part ways with. but even so the graphics in 2d were incredible, but no matter how awesome they are, they can't make up for a crap script.
majority of 50 dollars to see it in 3d? what!?
for 2 of us... yeah.
3 of us watched IMAX 3D on a Sat and it was $45 Cdn....
yeah it's $11AUD to see it in 3d on imax around here  that's a big chunk of change pokey!
