The Datto will rage again...
I played a bit of Civ 4.. not bad, but I'm not rushing out for this one.
Life's too short to drive bad cars.
I went to install it yesterday after I picked up my pre-order only for Steam to tell me
"this product has not been released in your country yet and cannot be activated"

Actually I have friends in the US who were complaining of not being able to play it before some other people too. Not sure where it came out first.. it is pretty dumb though, in this day and age...

I have it. I am a Civ enthusiast, so it's not really the Civ for me.
They basically lobotomized the empire management aspects and improved the warfare aspects of it.
It plays much more like a war strategy game than a civilization planning game, which is, unfortunately, what I wanted.
It's not terrible by any means, its even kind of fun, but after your 4th or so game of warring, it start to feel like the same thing over again. Changing the target market makes me feel a bit mislead that it was called the direct successor to Civ 4.
I dont if I'll make home tonight
But I know I can swim

I understand it gets more underwhelming the more you play.

after playing it for a decent chunk last night I have to agree, the further I went into it the more I was dissapointed. For me Civ 4 Beyond the Sword is the right balance of diplomacy, trade, research etc but this version seems too heavily combat based, I dont like the city states either, they dominate the map too much and constantly pester you.
Ill give it a week and then prolly go back to Civ4.
