A stunning 250 GTO is restored by the Classiche department

Maranello, 28 November 2014 – One of the stars of the tracks of the 1960s was a Ferrari 250 GTO which has just emerged from a two-year-plus renovation at the Ferrari Classiche department, ready to return to its owner in America. During its stay in Maranello, the car was restored to the original engine and bodywork configuration in which it was delivered to Bologna-based publisher Luciano Conti in 1962. The latter also drove it in its maiden race, the Bologna-Passo della Raticosa.

The Volpi era. In June 1962, however, Chassis no. 3445 was sold to Count Giovanni Volpi di Misurata, a passionate racing driver, who competed under the S.S.S. Repubblica di Venezia insignia. During this particular stage of its career, the car also won the Trophée d’Auvergne with Carlo Maria Abate at its wheel.

A change of livery. In April 1963, the 250 GTO was purchased by Swede Ulf Norinder who, to comply with the racing regulations of the day, changed its livery from the original red to blue and yellow colours of Sweden. Mr Norinder then drove it to victory in the Vastkustloppet in his home nation. The car also finished second twice in the Targa Florio (with Bordeu and Scarlatti in 1963, and 1964 with Norinder and Pico Troiberg, the latter time as no. 112 which it still bears today). It subsequently changed hands several times before being sent to the Classiche department in 2012 to be restored to its original splendour. That process now complete, the 250 GTO once again sports the Swedish colours and is back with its owner.

    Dear 250 GTO enthusiasts,
I am looking for some color images of the 250 GTO S/N 3767GT with #153 driven by
during the Tour de France in 1962. Does someone possibly have some photos or can give me some guidance? Much appreciated!

If Racingsportscars does not have, as I just checked, it might indeed be difficult.

    And welcome to the forum.

    Ferrari 250 GTO #39 - The 55th Anniversary of the 250 GTO

The rally marking the 55th anniversary of the Ferrari 250 GTO, one of the most iconic cars ever built both in terms of its design and for the wins it collected at some of the world’s most important tracks and races, concluded at the factory in Maranello on Friday.

Twenty of the 36 specimens ever produced were involved in the event that ended on the afternoon of 29 September, when the cars arrived at the company passing under the historic arch on Via Abetone Inferiore. The event set off from Florence, where on Monday the 250 GTO had driven through some of the most beautiful parts of the city such as the Boboli Gardens. During the rally customers enjoyed Italian gastronomic delights and, above all, competed on one of the most illustrious tracks in automotive history, the legendary Mugello street circuit, a route measuring more than 60 km and until the mid-1960s the scene of battles between champions of the calibre of Mario Casoni, Renzo Sinibaldi and Carlo Facetti.

Returning to Florence on Thursday, the crews headed to Maranello on Friday, retracing the route of the Mille Miglia and ending the rally at the factory where they lined up in the square in front of the presidential building. It was an extraordinary sight with so many original and certified cars in the different colours of the various national sports federations: the red of Italy to the yellow of Belgium, the blue of France and the green of Great Britain. In the evening, customers were guests at the Classiche department workshop for a very special gala dinner at which Ferrari announced the 2022 rally, which will celebrate the 60th anniversary of one of the greatest cars ever to leave the gates of Maranello.
