It was the requirement that the end plates had to extend to the rear that was the cited reason last year as being for the sponsors. It was on atlas-f1 or formula1.com. There is no aero reason for them being forced to be long. Other than Bernie selling sponsor spaceOriginally Posted by Coventrysucks
More sponsor space was cited as a possibel saviour to the loss of toboacco money. So MORE sponsors need MORE space if they are going to have a visible logo/name.Seeing as the size of logos remains unchanged (on the McLaren at least) I must conclude that the changes are not for the benefit of sponsors, but are the result of rule changes (Which I doubt will have been created to aid the sponsors) and/or aerodynamic advantage.
In these last few years of MAJOR tobacco/alcohol sponsors then the BIG invester wants their name to stand out. So space is used to seperate. As more sponsors have to come on to a car to continue the same TEAM funding them that space becomes harder to find.If they were bigger to incorperate bigger logos - why aren't the logos bigger/taking advantage of the space?
It's NOT intended to be for BIG logos that the big teams can find sposors to do. BUT for the smaller teams who have to find 10-12 sponsors and each wants a recognisable logo on a good space for coverage - and that is the rear wing end plate
The end limit of the many, small sponsors was the Dome car in Le Mans where every sponsor bought a 15x30cm box on the surface of the car
