Dayum, thats good specs.
Excellent.
1080i on ALL games.
3 cores and 2 threads each at 3.2 G isnt' going to set the heather on fire given what the Extreme Editions are doing. It's going to be fast enough to make the new XBox the equal of current top end home PCs, so for bang for buck if they introduce this at the traditional $299 price point it will be a winner. IF they do options though making a fully functional powerful maching say 399 or worse 499 then it'll need some maarketing limited games releases to ensure it's success.
EXCELLENT bandwidth on the busses though, will help lots with AI if they get the latency right.
Will need to see confirmation fo what Xbox LIVE GOdl subscription service is about as it seems to be the only way to do streaming media and mp3 si throguh that subscription method ( more monthly $$ ). Surely the starting Xbox has to be abel to play connected mp3 and mpeg4 media content ????
EDIT> It's OK, phew, I misread the page, offline playing of the media is included.

I think that the controller looks a bit cheap

Custom IBM <<PowerPC>>-based CPU
-3 symmetrical cores at 3.2 GHz each
-2 hardware threads per core
-1 VMX-128 vector unit per core
-1 MB L2 cache
It sounds an awful lot like a modified version of the PowerPC 9700 (aka the G5) the processor that powers the Powermac Towers and Servers used by Apple. It will be the first 64 bit CPU in a console system (I think).
Also I wonder if it will be backwards compatible with the old xbox games...
how many bits are other consoles????Originally Posted by MRR

The PS2 is 128 bits.Originally Posted by ZemoButts
For me the number of bits in a processor is not so relevant as even for the most detailed world co-ordinate mapping doesn't need to go beyond 16 bit.
To put that in context, if a "world" was mapped down to 1mm resolution , then 16 bits would give you that detail ALL THE WAY OUT to objects nearly half a mile away 32 bits just gets even silliar with 1mm resolution on objects all they way out to 25 MILES
SO 128 bits is only for bragging rights AND to utilise smart multiple ALUs to do simultaneous vector math. IF three is a fast enough bus and intelligent cache then it's not so important.
has he ? That was one of the things the early stuff I'd seen was questioned.and yes it is going to be backwards compatible bill said it himself
Will Xbox games definately work in Xbox360 ? Got a link/quote ??

actually wht i read was there are going to be 2 diffrent Xbox 360s one the normal one and the other is going to be a delux version which is going to be backwards compatable and has other addons i think i read it on Ing or teamxboxOriginally Posted by Matra et Alpine
I dont think it matters how good the Xbox360 will look. People will constantly criticise and nitpick it because its an Xbox, hence microsoft.
I thought the Nintendo64 had a 64bitCPUOriginally Posted by MRR

The X-Box will be revealed in 3 hours, cheers
yep yep
After watching the program.... I'm not really impressed, it's gonna take a lot more than that for me to spend 300 bucks.
meh... it was pretty good, the graphics were sweet and I can't wait till PGR3 comes out
