Where ive been for the last month DIALUP WARNING

2 weeks back got home from a 2 week trip from hawaii, heres the pics and a little summary

    Day One:
Flew from Boston to either houston or dallas, i forget, then to honolulu, on the island of oahu.

Then we went to our Hotel, the Halekulani, on Waikiki beach, and just relaxed.

    Day Two:
Went to see the USS arizona memorial.

i meant to have 2 other pics for this but i missed them when resizing and now im too lazy
then I just walked around Waikiki and took some photos.

thats Diamond Head in the back.

    Day Three:
We went to this beach with that island off shore called Chinaman's Cap.

Then we went to this other beach with some really heavy surf for summer.

We saw some hangliders right above us, it looks mad fun.

then we pretty much just went back and had dinner and chilled at the pool.

    Day Four:
We drove up to the inside of the crater inside Diamond Head, then hiked up a trail to the highest point.

This is the view from one of the lookouts along the trail to the top.

We then had to go up a bunch of stairs and through a tunnell.

    Then a spiral staircase:

This lead us up to an old military bunker:

You had to sqeeze out onto a path that lead around the outside of the bunker and continued up the side of the mountain.

And finally we were at the highest point.

Where we saw a helicopter come up and hover for about 5 minutes to film for a news story i guess.

After that we went to the Hukilau Beach,

    Day Five:
    Flew from Honolulu to Maui.

We were staying at the sheraton on Kaanapali beach, right by blackrock. I just walked around and took some more pictures.

Lots of people jumped off of Blackrock

View of the scenery behind the hotel.

    Day Six:
We drove the Hana, on the opposite side of the island. Theres nothing interesting in Hana, its the road you take to get there thats the attraction. Its really windy and steep and theres dozens of pull offs where u can go see waterfalls and shit.
We got out to see one waterfall and had to navigate through a thick bamboo forest.

    Another waterfall:

    Just a scenic point

We got to this one waterfall where we stopped and some local kids were jumping off a high cliff into a pool that was only about 10 feet wide.

One the way back, we took a road around theother side of the island, which we had signed a contract saying we wouldnt do in our rental car because there were unpaved portions and they wouldnt come and assist us if we broke down or got a flat. The scenerey was really different. Winds were up around 30 mph, with some higher gusts.

Then we just went back to the hotel.

    pounding some dough i guess:

They cook a huge pig underground.

After dinner caught the last bit of light:

    Then a show:

    And, day 14:
Drive up to the summit of Haleakela, a volcano, not sure if its dormant or extinct, to see the sunset. We were pretty high up.

Before we got to the very top, we stopped and walked out to a lookout inside the crater. The air temp was in the 60s, and the wind was probably around 60 or 70. Thankfully there was a shelter with a big window to look at the crater though, but to take photos i had to step outside for a minute.

A plant called Silver Swords that grows at the top.

well, thats it. took 2,663 photos and had a blast. spent less than 24 hours at home, and then went up to rockport, maine for a two week long photo workshop, which was even more fun than hawaii. ill post those up in part II in a little bit.

i sense im going to be told to use the attatchment system, but i had such a nice post already made i did it this way. part II ill use the attatchments.

id also like to say, that i probably wont be spending a ton of time on UCP in the near future. have just under 3 weeks til school starts, and i dont have a huge urge to spend it on UCP. i may drop in sometimes, and may come back to posting once school starts. either way these posts arent the last youll hear from me.
