    My New Golf Gti

I have just got the Golf GTI that I have been searching for. Its a 1990 big bumper version with 115,000 miles on the clock but has been maintained like a baby from new and has a vast service history.

I had one back in 1988 and had to sell it when building my house and wanted one again ever since. I always thought the Mk II Gti was the best of the lot and I am of the view as well that the 8v which mine is is a better choice than the 16v for many reasons.

The guy I bought it from seems to know his golf GTI's (its all he seems to trade in) a one man operation - young guy but as sharp a businessman as you will find. The car was listed at £2,495 but I managed to get it for £2,100 as I declined the service (its only recently been serviced) and the warranty is only valid in the UK so not much good to me.

Most of the GTI's he has would be in pretty good nick (if most do have pretty high mileage’s) and all are unmodified.

He had an absolutely magnificent 1991 GTi 16V 3 door in metallic black with only 81,000. I would have bought that straight away if it had not been sold before I got there. Not a scratch and an interior like new.

The problem is you have to decide quick as most of his cars will sell to the first viewer - and he knows that so there is not much give in terms of knocking back the price.
My collection is now complete - well until the next year anyway.

Nope - that's why it took me so long to find one - the unmodded ones are so rare now.

However I was thinking of upgrading the brakes as I find them a bit weak - I don't mind mods that are unseen and increase safety and driving enjoyment. Any suggestions on this front welcome.

    Congrats, sweet ride...

I'm looking for an older model GTI myself in the U.S. myself... if anybody knows anything in the New York area or surrounding states, hit me up...

No problem - I have to drive it back from the UK next week and I am useless at photoshop anyway so I know its the tradition here -

Strangely it makes me feel like a 16 year old to be asked to do it.

How far do you want to go with the tuning, and is it fuel injection or carbed?

Can't tune it at all - here (in Ireland) the insurance companies go mad if you tamper with the tuning - but the brakes do need to be upgraded. The current ones are working fine for the standards of 1990 but not for today.
