    theres a device called disc dr. its at game shops and it can repair discs.

    i heard you can polish the cd with the toothpaste, but never tried it personally

    Yes, back in the day kids used to polish there model car paint out with toothpaste...which is essentially a polishing compound that is safe to put in your mouth.

    Safer to use a thin bit, go round in circles with pressure applied.

    If it doesn't seem to be 'cutting' then increase the amount of paste. What you are actually doing is burnishing the surface with heat from friction.
