    Best video card for system

What's the best video card I can get for our system? Both the absolute best that'll run on it and the best one that's not too expensive.

I scanned this page from our mobo manual and we have a 2.4 ghz P4 with 533mhz FSB and 512mb DDR400 RAM

What do you mean by not too expensive? Give us a price

Personally I would go for a GeForce 7900GT if you plan on upgrading, which is about $440AUD. However, because of your processer this is overkill if you don't plan on upgrading the processor and the motherboard. A 7800GS would be cheaper and ample considering the processor and memory you currently have. Spend the bit you save on upgrading memory

If you can find one of these, then get it. The EVGA ones are actually really rather great, and this particular one is f*cking great value for money at $431.70 AUD

And if you really need to go any cheaper, this which is $325 AUD. I wouldn't trust XFX on anything over $400 AUD because they are awful at cooling and are generally unreliable. But even the card i just showed you will be able to run all games very well, which is probably the best choice for you. My friend has a $180 AUD GeForce 6600GT and that runs all of the current games well.

$440 is more than I want to spend. I'll have a look for a decently priced 6600GT then. Thanks!

Wait do you have a PCI Express slot?

    It seems you don't...

Yeah without a PCIe slot your pretty limited. I don't have one either, so I use a Radeon 9550 through the AGP. It works pretty well, plays most games and stuff, and it was cheap.

Get a 7800GS since you have an AGP 4x/8x slot

Maybe the 6800GS if you're looking for the 6600GT price, the AGP version can be unlocked to 6800GT.

    7600GS runs on GDDR2 memory.

6800GS, however, runs on GDDR3 and can be unlocked to a true 6800GT.
