    christian fundamentalists

A court in Holland has just issued a verdict that a school is allowed to refuse access of a 16 year old boy. The school is based on traditional christian values, which a.o. include that girls are not allowed to wear jeans or long trousers in general.

You might ask what the reason was why the boy was refused? Well, his parents have TV and internet at home....

The judge verdict was based on the freedom of the school to sets its own rules, in spite of the fact that the parents support the general principals of the school.

Can't someone write a bible that is based on modern society for them ? Something 50 years old is usually seen as obsolete and old-fashioned why not the bible then ? It's almost 2000 years old !!!

    NOTE:
As you can see i am not religious though my father is... I don't hate christians, muslims or anyone else I'm just an opponent of religion in general.

Like drakkie im not very religious, personal choice. But to be honest, I've fouind that hardcore christians, in my experience so far, have all been very close minded people and it really is quiet pathetic. And this situation right here, is extremely ridiculous.

Whats wrong with TV adn internet? My guess is exposure to explicit content? I dunnio, i'venever read the bible. Somebody explain, or at least somewhat try to So you can lift this cloud of discomfort and confusion off of my shoulders and make me pass my road test for the Ninja ZX6-R this afternoon. I am excited.

This sounds like it is a fairly specialist religious school with a limited uptake of pupils, and as such it sounds a fair judgement.

In a similar manner, it wouldn't be surprising to hear that a school would refuse access for a boy, if the school was an all-girl school, no matter whether his parents supported the ideologies of the school or not.

The problem arises when there is gross inconsistency - a well publicised case in the UK was where a school refused a muslim girl's request to wear a burka, which she considered part of her religious obligations, because it didn't follow their dress code.

This probably wouldn't of been unreasonable, except they allowed other children to wear turbans, etc., which also broke the school's dress code.

If you wish to live in a "free" society, you must accept that alongside people having the option to go to a school where they can believe anything they wish, others must have the freedom to set up their own school where pupils must believe a set of rigid, uncompromising principles.

As a person who has gone to Catholic High schools for the majority of my High-school education, these sorts of schools are uncommon and extremely specialised.

It's not unreasonable for a school to deny entry to a student if their values do not fit the schools. No doubt the boy and his parents knew full well what the expectations of the school were when they first applied.

    some updates.

Other students and even teachers of the school do have TVs at home, but the school has objections to the fact that the boy's 18 year old sister sometimes wears long trousers. The familiy at home also uses another Bible translation....

It is likely that the lawyer of the boy will appeal. To be continued...

Proving conclusively that Religion is the main root of problems for our society.

That and, as my friend says, it is merely the battle between who has the bigger imaginary friend.

I seriously cannot understand how they can possibly believe he would be better off at that particular school...

The fewer people they let in; the better for us all, I think.

I think it is true Christian belief that we are on this earth to suffer, only to find paradise after our death. This might be their contribution to this principle.

This is also what I don't get. We also have a party where women are not allowed to be members, but some seem to be very eager to join. It really makes no sense.
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

Oh, if only one could be there when they found out it wasn't true...

The joke's on the party - who's going to tidy their office?

Also makes drunken office Christmas party fumblings a tiny bit more embarrasing.

It is simply not found in the bible I have read it fully when i was 12,because my parents wanted to givce me the oppurtunity to choose for myself. My father is a christian, my mother atheist.

This thing is likely a extreme interpretation of some controversial words in the bible

Yeah the girl who wears a Burkha, then shows up at court wearing make-up.. sorry love, but you can't have your cake and eat it.

Also, Turbuns weren't deemed to break the school dress code as they were an addition to it, rather than a replacement.

I hear (from my parents who are both teachers in herts) that the girl was a disruptive sh*t in school: arrogant, rude and intentionally belligerent - but that never gets reported does it?
