    Koenigsegg Agera

    Koenigsegg will present a new model at the 2010 Geneva Auto Salon next week in the shape of the Agera. It is not the all-new hypercar or four-door saloon that many of us were expecting, however, it does represent the forward moving nature of the Koenigsegg brand and a steady evolution through 15 years of expertise.

    The Agera retains much of Koenigsegg’s traditional styling handed down from the original CC8S. You will see the traditional Koenigsegg doors on the new car as well as similar proportions to the successful CC8S model range.

    Tip-to-tail, the car measures 4293mm (169 inch), exactly the same size as the CCX. It’s width is 1996mm (78.6 inch) and height is 1120mm (44.1 inch), again, identical to the CCX.

    As far as performance goes, Koenigsegg have kept the same 4.7 liter V8 developed in previous cars, this time there is 910hp at the 6850rpm-redline. Torque hits 1100Nm at 5100rpm. Thanks to a dry weight of 1290kg (2832lbs), the Agera manages to reach 100km/h (62mph) in 3.1 seconds and 200km/h (124mph) in 8.9 seconds. Top speed is estimated at 390+ km/h (245+ mph). As far as the exhaust system for the Agera goes, an Inconell system is being used, shared with the Trevita revealed last year. Coupled to all this is the Koenigsegg-engineered transversal, paddle-shift transmission with limited slip differential.

    The chassis is manufactured from carbon fibre with aluminum honeycomb with integrated fuel tanks for optimal weight distribution and safety. The advantages of this also include the fact that the whole chassis weighs just 72kg. Adjustable suspension is included to help the car get over speed bumps and uneven surfaces without damaging body work.

    As with past Koenigsegg’s, the Agera features a removable hardtop, stowable under the front hood lid. Bodywork is manufactured entirely from pre-impregnated carbon fibre/kevlar with carbon air ducts over the wheels. Aerodynamically, the Agera features a flat underbody with Venturi tunnels at rear of chassis/body. This allows it to produce 300kg of downforce at 250km/h (155mph).

    The brakes come in the form of 392×36 and 380×34 ventilated and drilled ceramic discs. Performance is guaranteed, whatever the weather, wherever the location. State of the art traction control sets new industry standards with the ability to auto-adapt to the location and driving conditions. Koenigsegg have also maintained their relationships with Michelin and hope to offer a set of tyres, perfect for the car in both wet and dry conditions. Sizes for these are 255/35 – 19 inch at the front and 335/30 – 20 inch at the rear.

    As you would expect with a car of this level, equipment is all standard. There is USB and mp3 connection as well as a silver key and leather carpets. Safety-wise there’s extra four-point seatbelts for track use, digital warning and info systems, a G-sensor alarm (handy when you know the cars capable of pulling 1.6G under cornering), and a tyre monitoring system. To keep elements of practicality, Koenigsegg include roof stowage and a bag, as well as offering customized luggage as an optional extra. As standard is the car cover.

    Koenigsegg are understandably pleased about the work they have completed on the interior of the Agera. They have basically stated from scratch developing an all-new carbon fibre center console and tunnel assembly. A new ‘ghost’ lighting system implements invisible nanotubes to illuminate the aluminum buttons. Leather mats have already been mentioned, Agera stitching is unique to this car only.

    The price is unknown, however, we do know that Koenigsegg plan to maintain a steady rate of 16-20 cars per year. Cars will be with owners by the end of the year following a six month development period. Orders for the Agera will be taken from the start of the Geneva Auto Salon.

    In case you were wondering, Agera can be translated in two ways; first in Swedish to the verb of ‘to act’, secondly in Greek to mean ‘ageless'.
