National Museum of USAF in Dayton, Ohio

Drove down to Dayton, Ohio to visit the museum on Sat. Was planning to return on Sun to go to the part of the museum I missed on Sat, but the local weather gets a bit hairy so we decided to leave early Sun to miss the 2nd wave of bad weather.

Cool museum, anyone gets a chance especially if you are an airplane or history buff will get a kick out of it. It is FREE also....They are claiming its the world's largest airplane museum, and having been there I don't doubt it...

I've been there twice, most recently was just a few weeks ago when I was in Ohio for the ALMS race. My friends that I stayed with live only four miles from museum.

It is definitely amazing. My only disappointment is the Valkyrie wasn't there my second trip.

According to their website the B-70 has been moved to the Annex area with other research aircraft and near the presidential aircraft.

Wow, that really is a nice museum.

Imagine how much it'd cost to restore every aircraft to flying condition?

    I shudder at that price.

Well the B-70 cost $700m for two of them... in mid 1960s dollars. I suspect it would be expensive to get it in the air again...

Yeah I missed the XB-70, its in the part inside the AFB that I didn't end up going. Ohio was having pretty bad T-storm cell from Sat night on we decided to cut the trip short and drove back up on Sun. Otherwise I was planning on going to the museum again on Sun.

I'm more interested in the WWII birds, but yes, any experimental plane would be just as prohibitively expensive.

Bockscar is also the lesser known half of the atomic twin.....Enola Gay dropped the first atomic bomb used in war, Bockscar dropped (hopefully) last....
