parking a car on the road indefinitely is taking away parking space from other cars. Therefore in our country (Holland) you still have to pay road tax if you decide to park your car, and because tax is considerable, you will not find such cases here. Parking on a farmyard instead is free of charge, so there are the occasional barnfinds. And what I remember from travels through the States, also there farmyards are often filled up with old cars.
