[QUOTE=my porsche;875718]I didn't apply to USC because A) I probably would not have gotten in, B) there are better educational opportunities/values for $45,000 a year and C) I don't want to live in Compton.

better educational opportunites?like?, USC is known for that, hell several of their departments are top notch ones which other schools refer to. Why do you think you would not have gotten in? Compton? nah not THAT getto lol

So...I just got back from visiting UC Riverside. While it did have some not so good areas and some slightly frosty staff members, it does seem like a semi-decent school. Some of the people seem happy and relatively friendly, plus the campus doesn't look too bad - kinda like Davis except without the cow shit.

It really isn't as gritty and nasty as some of you say it is.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.

Most actual campuses are safe despite the surrounding areas. I always told my sons to go where their hearts told them to. One other bit of advice from an old timer. Even if you're not sure of what you want to major in, make sure you get great grades on your general education classes that you start with--really really work hard to get A's on them. The grades you get in those courses may well determine whether or not you get into the engineering program of your choice and later on when the classes really get tough will help keep your grade point average up. Good luck.

I didn't get it. You're only allowed one freshman seminar, not three, so I chose the course on food writing and its relevance in culture. Should still be really interesting. It was between that, the barbecue class, and modern medicine & society.

No way, I've worked too hard personally (from 262lbs to 202lbs at 6'4" over the last year (through weight training and cardiovascular exercise and better diet)) to ever get obese again.
