Dragster-syle parachutes for the next world's fastest cars?

Top speeds will keep on climbing, even if only for bragging rights.

Would dragster style parachutes be helpful for top speed records?
This way they can use more of the straight to accelerate as the parachutes will decelerate faster than using the brakes or some movable aero device.

"an NHRA Funny Car is slowed by a reverse force more than seven times that of gravity when both parachutes deploy simultaneously"
    Fun facts

Thus they can brake later at the Ehra Lessien VW test track, BTW would VW allow to use their test track to test some (non VW) supercar to break the Bugatti Veyron record?
If not what other tracks can be used? Maybe the Edwards base 12 km runway?
Wouldn't salt flats slow down cars or make runs more dangerous?

Completely impractical for a road car.

Yes, because rich folk live life at 1/4 mile at a time.

Just so you know, there's a technical questions thread, you don't need to start a new thread every time you think of a question.

I would bet that any record achieved would be thrown out as the car would no longer be considered "stock". I call for production models to start incorporating parachutes on vehicles and the user could set them off on tailgators.

The vehicle could be stock as long as the parachutes can be street legal.
The main regulations are crash safety although folded parachutes are soft (at least softer than sheet metal) thus crash safety might be actually improved.

As for them not deploying in public roads there are no regulations about it. As long as they are pretty safe as not to deploy without the driver wanting to do so they would be approved.
A recetrack-only lock would be enough legally. The Veyron has a key to prevent it from reaching top speed.
They would only blame the driver from deploying them with the intention to cause harm.

The NHRA National Hot Rod Association and IHRA require parachutes for cars faster than some speed at the end of the 1/4 mile.
    Something around 150mph.

So if dragstrip speeds keep increasing they will eventually require parachutes if you want to run, even if it is a stock car.

"soft" is the worst thing for crash safety, so a parachute would be worse.
    Hard, deformable is best
As noted already "life isn't lived in 1/4 mile sections"
Keep parachutes for planes and dragstrips !!
