    Ive started! IVE STARTED IT!!!!

Its going to be looooooong road but.

So I got started last night on my engine rebuild! On a tight budget for this one so its all my own grunt work.

Took a quick stocktake of everything.

    Rocker Cover, Check
    Block with crank, Check
Sump with Pistons and pickup, Check
Box with everything else loosely in it, Check

So after about half an hour I had two pistons looking fairly clean, They need some emery paper though to get into the most dug in grime.

See pics for the comparison of a dirty to a nearly completly cleaned piston.

Looks good Bluey, I guess if your going to rebuild a motor better to go into something that isn't like a 10 million jigsaw puzzle..
And best thing is when your done you will be more proud of your achievement.

    So bit more done.

Thought id soak the pistons in degreaser rather then spray them and scrub.

After that I addressed the sump which was full of gunge and sludge, after all that was cleaned out I flipped it over and errr... bugger. 1st pic is after a good scrubbing with a steel brush, right side is orginal.

Now can i please plug BAM easy off oven. Works a treat! see results for yourself.

Anyways, she primed now with three coats and tonight the paint goes on.

I hope you are keeping track of the rod caps. It's imperative that they are matched correctly. Keep us updated!
I don't know if you get this over there, but try this stuff out:

Best stuff I've found yet, and its cheap.

So after painting my sump last night im blowing blue crap out of my nose :P

    1st coat

    3rd coat

    Also my block deck, pre-scraping

Post scraping (also set up halogen so I see what I was doing.) It doesnt look "clean" but it feels very smooth. The water jackets are FULL of crap though. Definitely going to need a good wash through.

Also the effects of overnight degreaser soaking, no scrubbing involved. See before and after pics. (wrong way around sorry)

Cleaned up the other two pistons, learnt (from reading, not trying) that you cant remove conrods from pistons on your own and that its not really a good idea. so yeh, they stay on.

See if you can find somewhere that hot tanks( hot cleaning solution) blocks and other parts. I'd recommend getting the block hot tanked so it cleans it all out.

The rod caps, on the bottom of the connecting rod, need to stay with the connecting rod it came off the motor with and in the right direction.

Also, I would suggest reading up a lot more on engine rebuilding.

Good luck bluey, everybody you know will want to drive the car after you've finished all this work.
