I really don't know how much the power difference actually is. The car is rated at 200bhp in US, I've seen cars dyno in US with 200bhp at the wheel(Dyno Testing the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 and 2010 Volkswagen GTI), which means there are more than 200 at the crank. And there are dyno graph that shows the difference in power output based on fuel used since the engine adjusts the timing based on fuel grade. It might just mean the EU spec 210bhp is available with the higher grade gas in EU.

I am also sure that the sue-happy consumer in US might made VW err on the side of caution in labeling the output....

But I don't know how much 10 bhp means anyway. The car is not exactly "slow" or really "fast". 10bhp is not going to make that difference....50 though, might....

But yea, the rest of the equipment set in US/Canada is much trimmed vs the EU model. Adaptive damping, adaptive cruise, back up camera/sensor, dual zone climate...are all not available even as option here. Though really I would've opted for none of those(I don't even have sunroof) except maybe Adaptive damping....

I am pricing up some brake tuning for down the line. Getting some Hawk HPS pads, Motul fluid and stainless lines will cost me ~$400 from ECS....might wait on this a bit longer...

Apparently it's not just the 10bhp, but the engine has been completely reworked and has much more torque (like 40-50Nm more). IIRC it even has a different code now.

On the other hand we get xenon headlamps as standard as well, which in my opinion are quite useful.

2.0 FSI was the MK5 engine, and it was upgraded to 2.0 TSI for all the MKVI all over. The power output in US was rated exactly the same as MKV was, in EU it was 10 more bhp. The 2.0 TSI was actually used in US's MKV GTI in 2009.

Yeah I really wish we get the Xenon. US/Canada model got it as standard in 2010. They actually downgraded it in 2011...

The names don't matter. Both the TSi, TFSi Mk 5 and Mk 6 engines were 2 litre turbocharged four cylinders. But the changes between the 200bhp and 211bhp versions are quite significant, more than the small power change suggests.

I know that. The FSI(MKV) is a different motor to the TSI(MKVI). The US car has the same TSI engine in MK6 EU car. The only thing the US engine that has in common with the engine of the MKV is the power rating. The motor is the same motor as the EU car right now.

Its not the first time(or the last time) EU car has more rated power. The Golf R we are getting are also rated less than their EU counterpart.

You mean right now, as if the new engine had been introduced after the Mk6 had been introduced?

Because I remember reading at autoblog (I think) when they reviewed the Mk6 that it kept the old motor for the US.

Nope...the motor is brand new, the power rating had been kept for whatever reason.

As I said though, the TSI was actually on the last revision of the MK5 GTI in US. I guess that was during the overlap in production as US car I think lasted into the mid model year of 2010 and in EU the MK6 was already out mid 2009. So if you compare the last US MK5 to the MK6 they would actually have the same motor. But MK5 in general was on the old motor.

06/07 had the TFSi, the 08/09 had the TSI. I think they are totally different engines.

MKV was EA113, MKVI is EA888. The only commonality is the 88mm cylinder spacing.

The engines changed midway through the MKV, so later MKV and MKVI share the same engine.

EA888 in 2009 MKV GTI exists only in North America. In Europe the GTI switch happened only in MK6...

Washing the car is always a mixed emotion experience, on the one hand you get to see the car looking shiny, on the other hand you see all the new scratches and dings.....

Got some dark smoked side marker to hide their appearances, something of a North American addon....and not very obvious in the pics, but the side windows are tinted now...

Chipping is likely, lower not likely....I can't stand having it ride rougher than it already is...and that probably won't help handling in any meaningful way in the real world...
