    Reverse Problem

My 1992 Ford Taurus can no longer back up.

What kind of problem could this be?
I think the transmission may be the cause. The car has an automatic.

How much money would be needed to fix it?
The car it self is worth less $6000 CAD, so I might sell it instead if it is too expensive.

Can you select reverse on the shifter? What happens when you do?

You probably blew the fuse of your flux capacitor.

Well, you gotta get your speed up to 88mph then go back in time to make the damage never happen.

No, that's why the time circuits keep defaulting to 1885.

Being serious, I'm not sure what the problem is. If it is the transmission, it very well could end up costing more than the car is worth, or very close to it. But I'm no expert; have a trustworthy mechanic look at it.

Canadian Tire sucks a lot of balls. Ask your friends if they know any auto mechanics - it's best if it is some independent shop and you have a connection to the guy so you don't get scammed.

Do you use Canadian Tire money to get it fixed?

I have no knowledge on your car specifically, but I have just in general- give as much info as possible- did it shows any odd behavior before this started? Do all the forward gears work fine? does the engine rev freely when its in reverse, or, as you said, does nothing at all happen?

That being said, i'm no expert on auto trannies (or cars in general) but if you are planning on fixing it yourself, get the shop service manual. It should be about 1000 pages and have everything you need to know to do anything on your specific car. With a manual like that and enough determination, someone who knows nothing about cars can fix anything from the tranny to the engine to the interior panels. You can probably get a complete tranny from a junkyard and swap it in for a couple hundred bucks this way.

If that sounds like too much trouble, give it to a mechanic with as much info as possible.

I got a radiator fluid leak before this happened
    After that this started happening
if I drive forward and then reverse it would work
The engine revs fine but no power gets to the wheels
