There are many high performance tires out there. What tire (make and model) do you prefer and why? Is tread life just as important to you as grip?

I think...it depends
Depends on what area you're looking for. Motorsport? Which one then?
Street use?
Kumho Ecsta MX are probably the best high-performance street/track tires for the money. At least in North America...
Desert Use?
For those I'd recommend Toyo Tyres...those ones are great.
Lemme just see if I can get the model number..
Heh, last time I got tyres for my Mini I got Yokohamas, because they were the only ones available in that size.
lol!
performance tyre for desert use? is there such a thing?
halo 2 - november 9
The Dunlops I have on my car had tons of grip. The fronts lasted me 9 months the way I drive. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably look at a set of Falkens. A lot of Mk3 drivers that Auto-X use Falken Azenis on a light 15" wheel.

i used pirelli Pzero's on the 7 and have nothing but good things to say, but what sort of performance driving are you looking into, nitto makes a wonderful autox tire you can use on the street the 555RII, the 555 is also a good tire with better wear charictaristics, and the 555R is one of the best drag radials on the market. theres one more street autoX tire that stood above the rest but i cant think of the name at the moment. but these autoX tires wont last very long on the street so their pretty impractical anyway

As other people say, it really depends on what characteristics you are looking for. On the Leon, I have Pirelli P6000 which, as basic tyres go, are very good for grip but awful for road noise.
My mate has P-Zero Rossos on his Audi S3 and again, the grip is great but these wear out in under 10,000 miles (bear in mind S3 is 4wd).
